InfantSEE®

 

 

 

At our office, we participate in InfantSEE®, which is a public health program managed by Optometry Cares® – the American Optometric Association Foundation. It is designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an essential part of infant wellness care to improve a child’s quality of life. Under this program, participating optometrists provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment between 6 and 12 months of age as a no-cost public service. In this exam, babies are screened for strabismus (crossed eye), amblyopia (lazy eye), refractive error (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism) and eye health. When these conditions are diagnosed and treated at an early age, a child has a much better chance of normal vision development, which also plays a large role in meeting developmental milestones and school success. Often these conditions have no signs or symptoms until later in life when they become harder to treat, which is why the InfantSEE program is so valuable.
