Genetic Testing

We now offer genetic testing for people with Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) or a family history of AMD. Recently, there have been many new studies on the best treatment for AMD, and we have developed a protocol for nutritional supplementation and genetic testing based on those studies. We continue to recommend an annual eye exam, and may recommend more frequent follow up visits based on the results of genetic testing, which gives us a 10 year risk percentage for progression to the more severe form of AMD.

We will also be able to recommend the best nutritional supplementation for you based on your genetics. Individualized treatment can help us to more effectively slow the progression of the disease and monitor your specific risk factors.

ForseeHOME

Virginia Eyecare Center is proud to be one of the limited offices that prescribes the ForseeHOME device for patients at risk for developing Wet Macular Degeneration. This device is mailed to patients from their insurance company to help them monitor and detect progression of their Macular Degeneration, and is much more sensitive and accurate than traditional at home Amsler Grid testing.
